Graduate Assistantships for MA/PhD Programs

Whether entering the program with a BA/BS or an MA/MS, your entire doctoral program is fully funded for up to five years (or fewer if you complete the requirements in a shorter period) if good academic standing is maintained. That is up to five years of complete tuition remission for required coursework and a stipend of $31,050 per year for up to 5 years. Please note, annual stipend increases are tied to the University's annual merit pool if/when University salaries and wages are raised. In addition, the University offers student health insurance and various types of leave.

The application for admission can be found here and is open annually from September 1st to December 1st, 5th or 15th depending on the program. Awardees will be notified no later than April 15th. Eligible students are automatically awarded graduate assistantships when they are accepted into the MA/PhD program.

To earn the stipend, students are assigned as Graduate/Teaching Assistants (GAs/TAs) for the first five years of their respective programs. This role requires a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week for 35 weeks. Students are also required to serve as a Graduate Teaching Fellow (GTF) to teach at least one course while completing the PhD (generally Year 4 or 5, after completing PSY 550). The specific quarter is at the discretion of the student.
