Committed mentors and forward-thinkers
Associate Professor Gabriela González Avilés studies the atomic-scale structures of crystalline and amorphous materials, which are used in bone implants, rechargeable batteries, flat-panel displays and solar cells. Her National Science Foundation-funded research experiments are conducted at the Advanced Photon Source of Argonne National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
“The Physics master’s program at DePaul is a great place to help you achieve whatever goals you have. My experience working with AIPS and CASA, as well as my summer internship working at the Very Large Array in New Mexico, gave me the skills required for my current position. I am working on research in radio astronomy and taking advanced astronomy courses for my PhD. I never would have had these opportunities if I hadn’t worked with my advisor.”
