Illinois Louis Stokes - Alliance for Minority Participation
DePaul is one of 15 colleges, universities, and research institutions in the Illinois Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (ILSAMP). The goal of ILSAMP is to improve the quality of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education for underrepresented students, and to increase the number of undergraduate and graduate degrees awarded to underrepresented minority students in STEM disciplines. The Consortium provides opportunities and funding for undergraduate research and hosts an annual student research conference. ILSAMP is funded by the National Science Foundation and is one of many ILSAMP programs nation-wide.
Getting funded for undergraduate research
DePaul's ILSAMP program supports qualified undergraduate students for paid research with DePaul faculty in their research laboratories. Interested students must find a faculty mentor, submit an application that includes a description of their proposed activities, and follow the program guidelines. Students can be supported for up to three quarters and/or one summer of research. Additionally, students can apply for travel funds to attend professional conferences and/or present their research.
Applications may be submitted at any time during the academic year until all ILSAMP Scholars positions are filled. To be eligible for a paid research position, students must be African American, Latinx, Native American, Native Alaskan, or Native Pacific Islander.
