If you’re a registered nurse with a master’s degree, a DePaul post-master’s certificate will give you the coursework and skills you need to sit for the certification exam. We offer the following certificates:

Admission Requirements

Students applying for admission to a post-master's nursing certificate must hold a master's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.

To apply, please submit the following:

  • Online application (www.depaul.edu/apply) OR NursingCAS application
  • Official transcripts documenting completion of a master's degree in nursing and transcripts from all colleges and universities attended to the Office of Graduate Admission at the address below. Colleges and universities that issue official electronic transcripts can email them to gradtranscripts@depaul.edu.

The following items can be submitted through the online application:

  • Personal statement (two to three pages) that includes your reasons for pursuing a post-master's certificate at DePaul, your short- and long-term professional goals and your current area of nursing practice.
  • Proof of unencumbered RN licensure in the state in which you will complete your clinical practicum. Prospective students: This program is not available to students who plan to complete their clinical practicum in any of the following states: Arizona, California, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Tennessee, and Washington. In addition, if you plan to obtain your advanced practice licensure outside of Illinois after graduation from this program, we urge you to contact your state’s licensing agency to confirm restrictions and requirements unique to your state before beginning an online nursing program.
  • Two letters of recommendation, one letter from your direct supervisor at your current place of employment and a second letter from an academic reference, if possible. Otherwise, a second professional reference.
  • Curriculum vitae or resume.
  • If required, submit your TOEFL score directly from ETS. DePaul’s institution code is 1165.

International students (those who were educated outside of the U.S.) must take additional steps to be considered. For more information visit the International Admission page. Please note that students requiring an F-1 visa are not eligible for this program.
