Pathways Honors Program

The Pathways Honors Program is designed for highly qualified and motivated students pursuing a health career — from freshman year through completion of a professional degree. It is designed to let you explore health careers to find the one the is best for you without needing to declare your interest when you begin. The Pathways Honors Program puts the most academically prepared College of Science and Health undergraduates on the path to graduate health-related professional programs and the healthcare workplace of the future.

Our partnerships with institutions like Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and DePaul's School of Nursing provide numerous benefits to Pathways Honors students. Other benefits include automatic membership in DePaul's Pre-Health Program, the ability to participate in living/learning communities with other Pathways Honors students, being in a cohort and moving together through a rigorous curriculum, accessing unique research opportunities, and exploring issues with classmates who are pursuing related careers.

Why have I been invited to join the Pathways Honors Program?
I have never heard of something like the Pathways Honors Program. Do other universities host similar or comparable programs?
While many undergraduate institutions have agreements with universities to provide access to advanced-degree programs, DePaul’s Pathways Honors Program goes beyond a simple articulation agreement. Our Pathways Honors Program, as part of our alliance with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, is specifically designed to prepare students for the rigors of graduate health professions programs. The Pathways Honors Program will give DePaul students a competitive edge when it comes to pursuing post-graduate opportunities at Rosalind Franklin, or any other university, by providing access to graduate-level advising, career advice, and exposure to Rosalind Franklin facilities.
What is the advantage of enrolling at DePaul through the Pathways Honors Program rather than pursuing undergraduate studies at another university that has a medical school?
Many medical schools operate as independent entities. Not all universities with affiliated medical schools provide an advantage to applicants with an undergraduate degree from the host institution. As a result, DePaul graduates could be viewed as being on a level playing field as graduates from other institutions with affiliated medical schools. The benefit of our alliance with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science is that students who are interested in healthcare professions are given early exposure to faculty, staff and students from various areas of health care. Earlier exposure allows for exploration of options and provides a competitive edge when applying to graduate and professional education. This is a benefit not often available to undergraduate students at other institutions.
What articulations are available under the Early Opportunity Program?
The following programs at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science are currently available:
- Pathologists' Assistant (MS)
- Pharmacy (PharmD)
- Physical therapy (DPT)
- Physician Assistant Practice (MS)
- Podiatric Medicine (DPM)
What is the difference between the Early Opportunity Program’s Accelerated 3+ option vs. its Traditional option for all articulations?
Under the Accelerated 3+ option, you will complete your first three years at DePaul and transition to Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science for your first year of professional school during what would normally be considered your senior year at DePaul. After your first year at Rosalind Franklin, you will transfer back your coursework to DePaul to earn your baccalaureate degree. You will continue to complete your professional program.

Under the Traditional option, you complete your DePaul coursework within four years, earn your baccalaureate degree at DePaul, and transition to Rosalind Franklin for your professional program.
Can I be any major in the College of Science and Health to pursue the Early Opportunity Program’s Accelerated 3+ option?
