The Pathways Honors Program is designed for highly qualified
and motivated students pursuing a health career — from freshman year through
completion of a professional degree.
In
partnership with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS) and DePaul's School of Nursing,
the program puts the most academically prepared College of Science and Health undergraduates on the path to graduate health professions programs and the health care workplace of the
future. Pathways Honors students have special access to health-career faculty
and resources, including:
At
RFUMS:
- Pre-professional advising from RFUMS
faculty mentor
- Summer research
opportunities
- Opportunities to network
with RFUMS students
At
DePaul:
- Automatically registered for the Pre-Health Program
- Exclusive pre-professional
workshops
- Participation in a small
learning community/cohort
- Co-taught courses with
RFUMS and DePaul faculty
- Opportunity to pursue the Early Opportunity Program and an Accelerated Degree 3+ Option
- Special notation on official transcript denoting participation in the Pathways Honors Program
- Priority course registration
Exposure and Exploration
The Pathways Honors Program is designed
to let you explore health careers to find the one that’s best for you. So you don’t need to
declare your interest when you begin.
In addition to the all the benefits of
automatically being in the Pre-Health Program,
you’ll be in a cohort and follow a rigorous curriculum designed by faculty from
both universities; gain exposure to the health care practice from a
professional perspective; access unique summer research opportunities; and
explore issues with classmates who are pursuing related careers.
Advising and Preparation
As a Pathways Honors Student, you’ll
have direct access to pre-health advising in the form of a team of staff and faculty advisors — a pre-health
advisor, a research advisor and faculty mentors who will help you build your
application credentials, define your course schedules, explore exciting career options
and prepare for entrance exams and interviews.
You’ll also meet regularly with faculty
and staff at Rosalind Franklin — a rare benefit for undergraduates in pre-professional
programs.
Accelerated Degree 3+ Option
Finish your undergraduate degree a year
early and start your professional program at Rosalind Franklin or in DePaul's School of Nursing. Pathways Honors students
have the option to take advantage of accelerated degree programs.
Traditional Degree 4+ Option
Participation
in Pathways Honors helps you develop a strong application to graduate health professions programs in any health field — including Rosalind Franklin and the many programs
across the U.S. and abroad. If you choose not to pursue an accelerated degree program, you may pursue one of the traditional degree programs.
Joining the Pathways Honors Program
If you’re an incoming freshman, academically motivated and have
already been admitted to the College of Science and Health, you will be
considered automatically for this program. An invitation to qualified
students and instructions on how to accept your place in the program are
included in your acceptance packet to the University. Strong candidates
typically have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher, an
average ACT composite score of 27 or higher, or a combined SAT score of
1200 or higher on the critical reading or math sections.
Current College of Science and Health students (transfer and non-transfer) who were not admitted as a Pathways Honors student have an opportunity to apply to the program via the midpoint application. See the eligibility requirements for midpoint consideration.
Learning Community
Incoming Pathways Honors students have an opportunity to join a
special learning community. By
participating in the Pathways Honors Learning Community, you will be
enrolled in special sections of Explore Chicago, general biology, and
general chemistry. Read the learning community description to find out more about this opportunity.
Maintain Status in Pathways Honors
In order to remain active in the Pathways Honors Program, students must retain a primary declared major in the CSH, and maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Pathway Honors students who have earned below a 3.0
cumulative GPA at the conclusion of spring quarter will be dismissed from
Pathways Honors. If the student earns at
least a 3.0 cumulative GPA within one (1) year of dismissal from the program they
may petition to be reinstated into Pathways Honors. To petition students must
email the Pathways Honors advisor at CSHPreHealth@depaul.edu
with their name, student ID number, current cumulative
GPA, and a statement of 200-250 words on how they will maintain success within
the next year. Once the advisor reviews the student’s academic record and
statement, the advisor will email the student with a decision on reinstatement.
