Transfer Credit

DePaul nursing students seeking to transfer credit from another institution should follow the policies and procedures outlined in their respective student handbooks. For ease, the various policies are listed below, by program.

For coursework completed at another institution, the RN to MS program follows the College of Science and Health Transfer Credit Approval policy for undergraduate students. Students who wish to transfer credit should follow the submission guidelines stipulated in the CSH policy.

Students in the RN to MS program can earn credit for professional activities/work experience up to 33 quarter hours with appropriate supporting documents. 

Procedure for Portfolio Credit:
  • Students make an appointment with the RN to MS in Nursing Program Assistant Director prior to enrolling in their first RN to MS nursing course.
  • Students must complete and submit via email the portfolio rubric to the RN to MS in Nursing Program Assistant Director with appropriate supporting documentation prior to portfolio meeting.
  • The RN to MS in Nursing Program Assistant Director will review the documents and award a tentative number of quarter hours.
  • The RN to MS in Nursing Program Assistant Director will review the rubric and inform student of tentative quarter hours received during their first portfolio review meeting. Students will be encouraged to continue working on earning credit toward their portfolio up until two quarters before BS(n) conferral. 
  • Students will email appropriate supporting documents of any additional portfolio credit to the RN to MS in Nursing Program Assistant Director.
  • The RN to MS in Nursing Program Assistant Director will submit their recommendation including all supporting documents to the Admission, Progression, and Retention Committee for final approval of credit earned.
  • The RN to MS in Nursing Program Assistant Director will complete the final portfolio rubric with total approved credit earned to the student and the Associate Director of Graduate Student Services.
  • The Associate Director of Graduate Student Services will add the approved credit to the student’s Degree Progress Report.
The MENP program follows the College of Science and Health Transfer Credit Approval policy for graduate students. Students who wish to transfer credit should follow the submission guidelines stipulated in the CSH policy.
The DNP program follows the College of Science and Health Transfer Credit Approval policy for graduate students, with one exception: Graduate level coursework which has been counted toward the completion of another degree may be granted waiver credit for equivalent DePaul coursework at the discretion of the program director. Students who wish to transfer credit should follow the submission guidelines stipulated in the CSH policy.
