Student Resources

​​​​​​​Numerous resources are available to students within the department and throughout the university. Research centers, lab and computing facilities, libraries, technology support, community outreach and financial support are a few you will find here. Advising

​Each Physics & Astrophysics major is assigned a department faculty member as their academic advisor. If you have declared a major in Physics, Astrophysics or Engineering, but do not yet have an assigned academic advisor, contact Mary Ann Quinn to be assigned to an appropriate advisor for your concentration.

All majors should meet with their academic advisors at least once per quarter to discuss course scheduling and other issues. If you have not met with your academic advisor in a while and need to look up their name or contact information, you can retrieve that information through Campus Connect​.​

Student Organizations​

The Department of Physics & Astrophysics hosts student groups in Physics, Astrophysics and Society for Women in Physics (SWiP). 

Society for Physics Students

The DePaul SPS group typically meets on Thursday afternoons. The Club provides fun and interesting activities and programs to benefit students of physics at all levels. The club also hosts talks by faculty and students on physics topics outside of regular course content, in addition to regular engaging features like lab sessions at the IRL or field trips.  Additionally, they meet for a tutor session on Fridays from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. in Byrne 204. Astrophysics Club

The DePaul Astrophysics Club is a group of undergraduate and graduate students at DePaul University who are interested in astrophysics. For more information about this club, contact Sam Solod via email Sam Solod. The club seeks to mentor interested students by:

  • Inviting professionals to speak about astrophysics
  • Helping students network with their peers and industry figureheads.
  • Organizing field trips, club game and movie activities and sky observations. 

Society for Women in Physics (SWiP)

​The purpose of SWiP is to build a supportive environment for women within the Physics Department at DePaul University. AMGEN - CAREERS

Space Grant

​​Since 2005, the Illinois Space Grant has funded undergraduate and graduate student researchers working with DePaul faculty on NASA-related research and provides scholarships for Chicago Public School math and science teachers taking graduate courses at DePaul that embed NASA-related materials. The Illinois Space Grant has supported over 100 student researchers.
