The Psychology Department offers a variety of Independent Study courses for students interested in gaining hands-on, mentored experience. These courses involve direct supervision by a faculty member and provide an excellent opportunity to document research or experiential work on your academic transcript. Students can register for 0-credit, 2-credit, or 4-credit Independent Studies, depending on their time commitment, the scope of the project, and tuition considerations. Students may take as many Independent Studies as they wish and should consult with their Academic Advisor regarding how best to fit Independent Studies into their degree plan. See the catalog for course descriptions.

How to Register
Registration for Independent Study courses requires permission. Students interested in taking an Independent Study must first contact the faculty member they are interested in working with to inquire whether Independent Study opportunities are available.
Next, students and faculty mentors should discuss the scope of the project, time commitment, degree progress, and tuition considerations to determine which Independent Study course and associated credits the student should register for. Next, students should ask their faculty mentor for registration information.
Independent Study registrations must be completed by week 5 of the academic quarter.
