Purpose
To ensure that the College of Science and Health is welcoming to all, and representative of the diverse CSH community while supporting the college in strengthening alumni engagement and connection with the college.
Plan
To build a diverse, broadly represented advisory council that will support the college in its ongoing work to fulfill its mission, of meeting its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) commitments and sustaining an anti-racism environment within the CSH.
Objectives
- The council will work collaboratively with the dean, chairs, and program directors in developing strategies to support efforts associated with student recruitment, retention, and persistence, while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- The council will actively work to recruit diverse advisory council members that will bring to the existing council their resources in the form of their professional expertise, networks, and philanthropic support.
- The council will work to communicate to the alumni community about the current direction and/or state of the college and the status of DEI initiatives.
- The council will work to provide feedback from the alumni perspective to school leadership on its progress towards improving the student experience.
Measurable Goals
- The advisory council members will attend both the fall and spring meetings in-person or remotely unless a formal absence excuse is submitted in writing in advance of the meetings.
- At least fifty 50% of the Advisory Council will participate in or serve on at least one college or Council related committee that supports strategic priorities. This could be in the form of the college strategic planning steering committee, one of the various strategic priority planning committees, or a departmental level advisory or strategic planning committee.
- The Council will work in the development, review, and maintenance of various committees that serve to meet the strategic priority goals of the council. These committee meetings will record meeting minutes and attendance.
- One of the council committees will focus on advisory council Recruitment and Retention. This committee will facilitate the recruitment process and be responsible for hosting at least one advisory council recruitment/retention initiative each year. This will be done collaboratively with alumni events that are conceptualized within the college or by advancement and/or alumni relations.
- Council members will notify the college of personal or fellow alumni accomplishments, awards, or recognition that exemplifies career success possibilities and pathways for CSH students.
