Mathematical Sciences

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers courses in mathematics, statistics, and actuarial science. We host student groups in each of these areas, and we support a vibrant research atmosphere.

Our undergraduate program offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in Mathematics with seven possible areas of specialization. In conjunction with the College of Computing and Digital Media we offer a joint Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, and in conjunction with the Driehaus College of Business, we offer a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Actuarial Science. We also offer minors in Mathematics and Statistics, which can be fitting complements to a variety of degree programs throughout the university.

Our graduate program offers Master of Science (MS) degrees in Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Pure Mathematics, and Mathematics for Teaching, and a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Mathematics Education. Our graduate courses are offered on nights and weekends, and some courses in the Applied Mathematics and Applied Statistics programs are offered at DePaul's O'Hare campus.

In the spring of their junior year, undergraduate mathematics majors can apply to enter one of our combined degree programs. These programs enable students to complete both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in about five years.
