Mission Statement: The Department of Biological Sciences offers a scholarly, broad-based program through which every student is welcomed, supported, and empowered to develop into lifelong learners who make a positive impact on society. The department:

  • Fosters a diverse, inclusive, and student-centered academic environment 
  • Provides a rigorous, contemporary curriculum that integrates a wide range of disciplines within Biology
  • Provides authentic research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students inside and outside the classroom
  • Supports and prepares students as they explore future professional and career options 
  • Promotes faculty and student scholarship in the Biological Sciences

In addition to undergraduate and graduate programs, the department provides numerous learning opportunities outside the classroom, including field experiences, opportunities for laboratory research, journal clubs, student organizations, and research seminars.
